Darin’s Priorities

  • As your state representative, my first priority is protecting your rights as free U.S. citizens. I stand with you for limited government, individual freedoms, and economic opportunities.

Protecting the sanctity of life and upholding individual liberty are the cornerstones of my campaign, and the Oregon Right to Life PAC agrees! I am proud to be the only candidate in this race they endorsed.

My opponent has done damage with his aligned votes with the Democrats. I will work to undo his “Yes” vote on HB 2002 to take away the right of parents to know their minor child has made life-altering decisions.

  • I am an unequivocal supporter of protecting our Second Amendment rights and will work to rollback the restrictions the Oregon Legislature has placed on law-abiding gun owners. I will defend the Constitutional rights of Oregonians to purchase, own, and use firearms for recreation and self-defense and advocate for their practical and cultural importance. Responsible gun ownership is fundamental and is protected in our US and Oregon Constitution.

  • When I cast my vote, I will fight to break the cycle of crime and not support the liberal politicians who implement early release policies that statistically have increased crime. I believe offenders should be held accountable, convicted, and serve a sentence that makes restitution to their victims.

I look forward to vote to lockup violent criminals and I will fight to repeal Measure 110. I support expanding funds for our good men and women of Blue who fight and put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe.

  • It is no secret that Oregon is dealing with a mental illness crisis with our adults and youth and is ranked among the worst states for homelessness. Studies show that mental illness, substance abuse, lack of affordable housing, and poverty are the leading causes to live on the streets, spend time in county jail, and be admitted into psychiatric hospitals.

What I can do as your House Representative is to vote to improve access for the people and programs who are passionate about moving people from tents pitched on sidewalks to affordable housing. I will support programs that provide services to the mentally ill. Our state must change the law to ensure that those needing treatment get the services they need.

My wife and I understand that homelessness combined with substance use or untreated mental illnesses can lead to public tragedies. That is why we opened a Residential Treatment Home (Ark77 Recovery Center) for people who suffer with a mental illness—mostly schizophrenia. I know firsthand how to help.

  • I’ve served 14 years on the McKenzie School Board and I fought to keep parental involvement in every area of their child’s education. I believe the parent does need to know about life changing events in their child’s life. I was outraged when my Republican opponent voted with the Democrats on HB 2002 to further separate the relationship between parents and children

I also believe schools overstepped their bounds with COVID-19 lockdowns and the Oregon Department of Education pushed top-heavy proposals that burden our local school districts. We witnessed young people not able to participate in their graduations, sports, and other monumental life-time events.

Solution? I want to give parents the freedom to choose what is best for their child’s education, as they know best for their child. Expanding school choice options will allow them to pick the best education resource: public, private, or homeschool and will provide healthy competition to improve our schools.

  • As a multi-business owner, I understand the high cost of living and high taxes. It has been decades of Democrat control which has left Oregonians struggling to improve their way of living.

As your state representative, I will take strong action against increased taxes, red-tape, and the size of government involvement in your life. I want to encourage people to continue to work hard, therefore I will protect your personal kicker rebate check that returns your hard-earned money back to your pocket.

  • Experiencing firsthand the destructive 2020 Holiday Farm Fire and now the Lookout fire, I understand the travesty of a family losing everything and the direct impact wildfires have on communities, relationships, and emotional wellness.

I’m heartbroken at the way both the state and federal governments have managed our lands. I know we can do better! It’s easy. With my experience in timber owning a self-loading log truck, I know there is significantly more timber that can be safely harvested. We can do this by creating healthy forests that reduce forest fires and boost our economy. It’s a win-win-win.
